Content Violations Review: Manga.Gushing Over Magical Girls (2024)

@Ramidel: Sorry, this is my overall first time in this particular forum. I think I worded my intent wrong.

I guess if it's not a requirement to read the whole thing, then it's not a requirement. I just personally recommend the path of 'have the voters read the whole thing first' because I think it will decrease any chances that we make the wrong decision because we only base our decision on what's given on the surface.

But if that's a risk you guys are willing to take and have been doing, then okay, proceed with your usual methods... My suggestion is just that, mere suggestion. You can take it or just leave it, no hard feelings.

Nothing about the review posted a few posts back seems creepy at all to me, just standard analysis of a weird series. Since I haven't seen the series, I'm abstaining right now, though leaning keep.

The problem with that review interpretation is that it doesn't run in a young teenager-targeted magazine. The target market of the Seinen Demographic is late high school/college and up.

x9 OK, I stand corrected. And I wonder if the troper who wrote otherwise in her character page deserves official reprimand. I don't consider watching a nude performance to be an issue (unless there's signs of her being aroused by it) but the others... Ouch. My core thought was that this work does not need to be lumped into the same bin as say Kodomo No Jikan but it's hard for me to hold that argument after learning this.

I won't miss it much. If this work is supposed to be about teenagers discovering their sexualities than it does a bloody bad job of it. Main question is if the manga is as bad as the anime now.

The names of the electrical charges really ought to be swapped. It is just DUMB that the place with MORE electrons is NEGATIVELY charged.

Having seen some clips, the uncensored version of the anime seems to be at least a bit worse than the manga since it shows off nipples and a bit more of the girls' lady parts than the corresponding scenes in the manga (usually) do. Going by what others have said, it also puts more emphasis and detail into the sex scenes—which are usually just a page or three in the manga.

I'm not sure how the censored version compares to the manga, though.

As much as I hate to admit it, you are absolutely right on the anime being even more sexual than the manga: an average fanservice scene in the anime is about 5 times more detailed compared to the manga which only last a few pages at best. And no, the censored version doesn't help at all. For this reason, I'm changing my vote to keep the manga.

Seconding voting on keeping the manga. The anime's choice to go for Hotter and Sexier doesn't help it at all.

Especially not when the manga has a not-insignificant amount of raunchy content already.

Looking at the guidelines put forth in the page, going by the four criteria listed in the "What we're looking for" section:

• Pure p*rn, or p*rn with an Excuse Plot only — No. The manga does have a fairly involved plot that parodies the traditional tropes of the magical girl genre—albeit with plenty of raunchy fanservice and the occasional sex scene sprinkled in—and in some ways the fanservice is used to advance the plot.
• Anything that has explicit underage sex — Yes. The main characters and most of their rivals are 14 years old and repeatedly engage in explicit sexual activities that are played for fanservice.
• Implied sex of preteens or younger — No... debatably. Nero Alice is nine years old, but tends to avoid getting involved in the ecchi & softcore hentai shenanigans—instead using her powers to facilitate others getting involved in raunchy situations, typically at Magia Baiser's instruction, with Leopard trying (and often failing) to keep her distracted from observing what's occurring. The times that she does get directly involved in raunchy situations are to be when she's glamoured to look like an adult using her powers—when she's "playing nurse" with Utena and strips Magia Magenta (Haruka Hanabishi)'s skirt and panties off when she wets herself while "playing house"—and when she joins in on spanking one of the other girls' exposed backsides.
• Fanservice intended to cater to pedophiles (lolicon and shotacon fanservice can count) — Yes.
  • A debatable example, but Magia Sulfur (Kaoruko Tenkawa) and Leberblume (Nemo Anemo) are flat-chested 14-year-olds who are still subjected to the same sorts of raunchy shenanigans as the more "mature-looking" girls, and take part in several of the series' occasional explicit sex scenes.
  • While Tanaka Michiko is a 20-year-old woman and looks her age in her civilian form and as Lord Enorme, Magia Baiser visualizes her as a child, strips her naked, and gives her a spanking in order to defeat her; and in her La Verità form—which she regularly uses to go undercover as the magical girl Imitatio (Imita Shion)—she looks like a prepubescent girl but is still played for fanservice.

It was also suggested to add a banner in the top of the page akin to TRS.

Should also mention, I believe we're in consensus to stop troping the anime. However, whether we should continue troping the manga, or trope no aspect of this series and cut the page, is still up in the air.

There are some topics where we don't normally use crowners (TLP, CM, MB) as an anonymous vote isn't ideal.

My understanding is that CV is on that list, but I'm double-checking with the team.

• We don't use crowners for Content Violations reports because of the extreme likelihood of them being brigaded by fans of the work without respect for the actual policy.
• I don't mind the idea of putting up banners for works under consideration, but I want to note for the record that popularity is not a defense against a CV action.

Apparently this manga/anime is fairly popular. That doesn't earn it a reprieve, although it does earn those people a raised eyebrow from me given what has been discussed about its content.
