Looking for encouraging stories. Has anyone successfully re-sleep trained their baby? I’m worried bc my girl is so much more mobile now— crawling and standing.

My girlie is waking up in 30-60 increments when I can even transfer her and I can’t sustain this exhaustion. She was previously sleep trained but I didn’t maintain consistency.

Thank you.

I would just go back to whatever you did before! We have done sleep training with all 3 kids, we used a sleep consultant for the beginning but after that if things start to get a little crazy due to illness or whatever we just always go back to the basics and they always get right back on track!

@bski22,

thanks!! I didn’t know that sometimes you have to sleep train again. I guess it’s more common than I realize.

Yes. Like the others said, things get off track sometimes during illnesses and teething and vacation, but just go right back to your original method and stick to it!

Regressions are so hard. I don’t remember them being as bad with my other kiddos. But now at 8 months, I can’t seem to get more than a 4 hour stretch of sleep. I’m dying over here.

How many times do I have to sleep train my baby? ›

Some parents have found success after one night of sleep training, while others only succeed after a month or more. Every baby is different. But experts say that, on average, it takes about three to seven days to achieve successful sleep training results. The key to succeeding in a week is consistency.

Do I need to sleep train my baby again? ›

Parents of sleep-trained babies (or parents considering sleep training their baby) often ask me if they will need to re-train their baby at a later date if they've already been sleep trained. There are a lot of components that can go into this scenario, but my answer is generally, no.

Is it ever too late to sleep train a baby? ›

Yes, you absolutely can sleep train toddlers 18 months old and older. Making changes to sleep habits, or any habits for that matter, takes time.

What is the latest age to sleep train? ›

Babies can be developmentally ready to sleep train as early as 5 months, and sleep training can be appropriate from 5 months until your little one reaches 5 years. The best age for sleep training is when you decide it's right for your family.

When to give up on sleep training? ›

Try to give the CIO method enough time to see if it makes a difference. Stick to a consistent routine for a week or two before giving up on it entirely. Also keep in mind that a big change or stress in your baby's life, like a move, new sibling, new babysitter, ear infection, etc., can render sleep training futile.

At what age do babies fall asleep on their own without sleep training? ›

Most babies learn to sleep on their own when they're around 4 to 6 months of age. This timing is crucial as it coincides with the maturation of their circadian rhythms, the natural internal process that regulates the sleep-wake cycle, and their ability to sleep for longer stretches.

What is the hardest age to sleep train? ›

The most challenging age for shaping sleep habits is typically between 18 months and 2.5 years. During this period, children transition from babies to toddlers and exhibit increased stamina and big emotions. They can be really attached to their existing routines making change more difficult for them.

Are some babies impossible to sleep train? ›

An under or over tired baby will not respond well to being sleep trained in the night. It will result in a crying, distressed baby and frustrated parents. If you are being advised to sleep train your baby overnight, we urge you to get your baby's day sleep lined up FIRST!

What is the extinction method of sleep training? ›

To put it simply, “cry it out” (CIO) is a sleep training method (sometimes dubbed “controlled crying” or “extinction”) that requires you to let your baby shed some tears and be fussy for a set period of time, so that they can learn to self-soothe and fall asleep on their own.

When can a baby self soothe? ›

On average, children will begin to demonstrate self-soothing behaviors between three to four months old. By this time, their sleep cycles have begun to mature, and they may not be able to fall back to sleep between REM and non-REM stages.

What is the mom on call sleep method? ›

The Moms on Call Sleep System promotes healthy growth and development by implementing routines that support the natural rhythms of a baby's day. Most healthy babies (who are gaining weight) are sleeping 8-12 hours a night by 12 weeks of age using the Moms on Call Sleep System.

How long to let baby cry it out? ›

However, on average, most babies start showing improvement falling asleep independently at bedtime within 3-7 days of starting sleep training. Naps can be tougher! Expect to see some progress in falling asleep and lengthening into those chunky naps within 2-6 weeks of starting sleep training.
