LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2005, in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Sidney John Naquin, 92, who died Friday, May 20, 2005, at his residence in Lafayette.Interment will take place at Lafayette Memorial Park.Mr. Naquin, the son of the late Sidney C. Naquin and the former Ella Blanchard. He was born Aug. 31, 1912, in Lafayette. He was an alumnus of SLI in 1938 in Lafayette where he was a member of the basketball team and coached the Junior Varsity basketball team. He remained an avid follower of UL basketball all his life.In 2001, he was honored during a home game as the oldest known surviving SLI basketball player. He served in World War II as an Army Air Force Flight Instructor. After the war he went to work for Eastman Oil Well Survey in the late 40's and was a prominent figure in directional drilling and the oil industry until his retirement in the late 80's from EMCO Directional Drilling. He was a past member of Acadian Hills Country Club and a Charter Member of The Petroleum Club until his death.Survivors include one daughter, Nicole Naquin Romero and husband. Robert E. Romero. of Youngsville; one son, Doug Naquin and his wife. Sharon Vandenhuerk. of Lafayette; one step-daughter, Lolly McCrory and husband, Dennis McCrory. of Chicago, Ill.; two step-sons, Michael Blanchet and Mickey Blanchet; two sisters, Janet Naquin Cooper and husband, Charles Cooper, of Alexandria and Dorothy Naquin Fleshman and her husband, J.W. Fleshman, of Martinsburg, W.V.; four brothers, Chester Naquin and his wife, Bennie, of Pleasanton, Texas, Gerald Naquin and his wife, Katy, of Port Charlotte, Fla., Kent Naquin and his wife, Nancy, of Greenwell Springs and Gordon Manning Naquin and his wife, Nelta, of Shreveport; eight grandchildren, Christian Romero, of New Orleans, Andrew Romero, of New Orleans, Stephanie Naquin Dade, of Katy, Texas, Bryan Naquin of Fort Worth, Texas, Richard Naquin, of Lafayette, Dave McCrory, of Austin, Texas, Daniel McCrory and Morgan McCrory, of Chicago, Ill.; and nine great-grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Rusty.He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Carrie Love Naquin; his first wife, Lula Racca Naquin and second wife, Tobi Blanchet Naquin.Visiting hours will be observed from 10 a.m. Monday until time of service.Pallbearers will be Christian Romero, Andrew Romero, Bryan Naquin, Tommy Dade, Dave McCrory and Menou Arceneaux.The family would like to extend a special appreciation to those friends who provided care and support to the end, Menou Arceneaux, Mary Broussard, Angie Broussard, Bobbie McGoldrick, Helen McGoldrick, Arden Anderson, Deacon Jim Davis and the care givers of Hospice of Acadiana and a very special "Thank You" to his physicians Dr. Kemp Coreil and Dr. Michael Cain.In lieu of flowers, donations made to his favorite charities will be of greater value to those left behind, Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St, Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA 70503, who made it possible for him to die as he wished; at home with dignity or Lafayette Animal Aid, P.O. RICHMOND, VT— George F. Legassey, 94, of 141 Mountain View Road, Richmond, Vt., formerly of South Grafton, Ma., Framingham, Ma., and Southbridge, Ma., died Wednesday, May 18th, in Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt., after a brief illness. George was pre-deceased by his wife, Germaine (Pelletier) Legassey. He leaves three daughters, Patricia Thomson, and her husband Laurence, with whom he lived, and Jeanne Legassey, all of Richmond, Vt., and Judith Volinski and her husband Benjamin of Andover, Ma.; and a son, Paul, of Colchester, Vt.; four grandsons; a great grandson; a niece, Kathleen Michniewicz and a nephew Patrick Mahoney. He was born and raised in South Grafton, Ma., the son of Augustus and Eugenie (Balcom) Legassey. He and Germaine moved to Gardner, Ma. in 1947 and then to Framingham, Ma. in 1959. From 1965 to 1970 they lived in Newport, R.I. before returning to (Southbridge) Massachusetts from 1970 to 1998, when they moved to Vermont. George graduated from Becker College, in Worcester, Ma., where he played baseball. He was a life long Red Sox fan and was thrilled to see them win the World Series last year. Mr. Legassey served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was employed as an Accountant at Thayer, Inc. from 1947 to 1960, where he rose to the positions of Chief Accountant, Comptroller, and Assistant to the Treasurer. He moved to High Temperature Materials where he became the Comptroller-Treasurer-Secretary between 1960 and 1965. From 1966 to 1970 he was General Manager, Vice President, and then President of M & L Tool and Die in Middletown, R.I. He then went to American Optical, where he served as Cost Controller, Manager of the Billing Department, and later of Capital Budgets. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 from the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Rt. 122A, Millbury, Ma., with a Mass at 11 A.M. in St. James Church, 89 Main St., South Grafton, Ma. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Whitinsville, Ma. Calling hours are 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, May 23rd, in the funeral home.
